The
Freedonia Group did a study that estimated the growth of the specialty films market
at a rateof 5.5% a year to $7.3 billion in 2007. Conductive film demand will rise
71% to $1 billion in the next 5 years. Freedonia says a large driving force behind
this is the need for films used in the production of flexible printed circuits
and panel displays. In electronics, conductive film is very important and is used
to make static dissipative packaging, coated films, and laminated films. Still
the largest, but slowest to expand, is the barrier film market. These are used
most in the food packaging industry says Freedonia. The market is expected to
grow slowly at 28% over 5 years to $3.3 billion. Other films used for safety,
security, and light control have small market shares, but are expected to grow
at an above-average rate. The study says decorative and breathable films have
a mature market and will rise modestly.
