pump catches fire
PATNA: Panic prevailed at Boring Road here on
Tuesday afternoon as an oil tanker downloading petrol at Gasolene
petrol outlet caught fire. Panic prevailed in the area as the
flames leapt high with shops in the vicinity downing their shutters.
Petrol pump owner Amit Mukherjee said
a spark from an adjoining transformer hit the oil tanker and it
burst into flames. Tanker driver Tribhuwan Prasad Yadav said the
vehicle contained about 6,000 litres of petrol as he had earlier
downloaded over 6,000 litres in another underground storage of the
petrol pump. A spark emanating from a motorcycle, whose owner started
his bike after taking petrol, touched the pipe used in downloading
petrol and soon the entire tanker cught fire, he added.
On getting information, Patna DM Jitendra
Kumar Sinha, Zonal IG RS Bhatti, Patna SSP Dr. Amit Kumar Jain and
City SP Manu Maharaj reached the spot.
Fire tenders reached the spot one after
the other with sirens blaring in the locality.
Patna DM Jitendra Kumar Kumar Sinha
said he would be able to say about the exact reason after talking
with the petrol pump owner.
The flames were doused by the fire-fighting
men. The petrol station was badly damaged. Even the oil tanker was
completely gutted due to the fire. Patna Fire Station Officer Sunil
Kumar Gupta said the reason behind the fire is being ascertained.
