Ed Weggeland




Ed Weggeland died on February 15, 2008, at age 69, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ed was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, before entering the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Suribachi, touring in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and North Atlantic.

After serving in the Navy, Ed attended the University of Rochester, and began his business career with Kordite in Rochester, N.Y. After being purchased by Mobil Chemical, Ed held senior management positions with Mobil Chemical's plastics division for many years.

In 1978, Ed entered the static control business, joining Richmond Corporation (later Richmond Technology), in Redlands, California, where he served as Executive Vice President. After leaving Richmond, Ed worked for several companies, starting, building and managing their worldwide electronics anti-static manufacturing and distribution businesses, primarily in Southeast Asia. He ended his career as Vice President Business Development for Static Control Components, a division of 3M.

Ed was a founder of the EOS/ESD Association. A recognized leader in the technical advancement of static control and specialized protective packaging products, Ed served the ESDA for over twenty years, in numerous management capacities, including service as the Standards Committee Vice-Chair, the Association's Vice President, Senior Vice President, President and President Emeritus.
He also served on the Association's Board of Directors. Ed helped build the Association into the professionally significant organization it is today.

 

In 2007, Ed received the association's Founder's Award at its annual meeting, held in Anaheim.

Ed is survived by his wife Debbie; his children Kim, Ted, and Chris; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service for Ed will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Lido Isle Community Center, Newport Beach, CA from 2pm - 4pm.
