New Anti-Corrosive Intercept Shrinkfilm
Press Release
FPM
Inc. and Engineered Materials Inc. are introducing the world’s first
anti-corrosive shrinkfilm using a non-chemical-emitting, anti-corrosive,
permanent anti-static resin. Designed to protect industrial equipment
and aircraft during storage and shipment, Intercept Shrinkfilm combines
standard shrinkfilm with a proprietary Lucent Technologies’ resin that
intercepts the corrosive gases as they try to penetrate the packaging
and neutralizes corrosive gases that are sealed within the packaging.
Intercept Shrinkfilm neutralized corrosive gases that are created by
ocean surfaces and industrial processes, including ozone, hydrogen sulfide,
carbonyl sulfide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and chlorine. Intercept
Shrinkfilm will provide corrosion protection for up to 10 years indoors.
The Intercept resin also neutralizes mold and mildew upon contact with
its internal surface. As a result, aircraft and equipment can be shipped
and stored safely without the corrosion that is inherent with other
shipping methods.
Intercept Shrinkfilm is used like regular shrinkfilm:
an item is fully covered with shrinkfilm, the edges are held in place
by tape or heat fusion, slack shrinkfilm is reduced by pleating or taping,
and the shrinkfilm is heated with a heat torch. Properly applied, this
heat shrinks the plastic down into a tight environmental seal but does
not damage the item surface. Shrinkfilm packaging is widely used in
material, boat, and aircraft shipment and storage. Used in conjunction
with FPM’s proprietary Shrinkwrap Coating System, an Intercept Shrinkwrap
wrapped item will last more than 5 years outdoors.
Intercept Shrinkfilm is only available from FPM
FPM Inc. (named for its FANA and Protect-A-Boat Divisions) is the originator
of boat and aircraft shrinkwrapping.
Engineered Material Inc., as the Lucent licensee, produces
Intercept Shrinkfilm for FPM. Sample Intercept Shrinkfilm currently
is available. Sizes will be available up to 20-foot wide in gusseted
rolls.
Technical reports and photos of shrinkwrapped aircraft,
boats, and equipment are available upon request.
